Wardens' visit to the Building Crafts' College

I was sorry that I couldn't make it to the Building Crafts College in Stratford for their Livery Evening hosted by the Worshipful Company of Carpenters, but our Renter Warden Terry and Fourth Warden Rae stepped up, put on their Company ties, and headed to E15 to join other members of the Livery Wood Group and building crafts Companies for a fascinating event.

The College was founded by the Carpenters' Company in 1893 in Great Titchfield Street as the Trades' Training School, to educate young people in a range of construction skills. These days it is the leading provider in the UK of courses for the Wood Occupations and in Heritage & Conservation, Plastering, Construction and Stonemasonry.

The College is constituted as an Educational Charity and is governed and financially supported by the Worshipful Company of Carpenters. Approximately 60% of its income is derived from public sources, 25% from fees and 15% from charitable sources, mainly the Carpenters’ Company Charitable Trust.

Beautiful pieces designed and made by students with incredible skills were on display, there was a Caribbean-themed reception, and Carpenters' Liveryman, artist Sir Grayson Perry ("it's too hot for drag"), turned up to support the event.
