KEEN LONDON
Registered charity number 1124915
KEEN London works to improve the personal, social and emotional development of children with additional needs and disabilities in London, by providing free, accessible, supported sports and activities through weekly KEEN Clubs in Lambeth, Brent and Hackney.
KEEN London is often the only place families feel safe leaving their children outside school hours, and provides a rare opportunity for children to come together in a safe environment, supported one-to-one by a volunteer. KEEN London is backing the Paralympics GB campaign to ensure every child has the same access to physical education. A recent report finds that just a quarter of the 1.5 million school children with disabilities regularly take part in physical exercise. Play is fundamental to children’s happiness, allowing them to have fun while they develop motor skills, build confidence, and improve physical and mental health.
Our Benevolent Fund supports one of the highlights of the KEEN London year – The KEEN London Residential.
For the majority of children in our service our summer residential (July) is the first time away from home and a rare opportunity to practice independence and teamwork or to work on self-esteem. The activities on offer contain sufficient opportunities for varying abilities tailored to meet the needs of those with specific learning and physical disabilities.
In addition, this experience provides families with rare respite and the confidence that with the right support, their children can thrive outside their regular home environment.
