THE SHERIFFS’ AND RECORDER’S FUND
Registered UK Charity No: 221927
The British prison population (England, Scotland and Wales) is over 95,000. On release, prisoners receive a discharge grant of £83. Lacking money, education, a job, a stable family and a home, over 30% re-offend, a figure which increases to over 60% for those serving sentences of less than 12 months. Their life is spent in and out of prison. The Sheriffs’ & Recorder’s Fund, founded over 200 years ago, helps to break this vicious cycle. At the critical time when a prisoner is released, the Fund gives small grants to supply vital needs. It also gives large grants to prison-based charitable schemes which work towards the rehabilitation of ex-prisoners.
