The Cutlers of Hallamshire are renowned for their spectacular annual Feast. This, the 389th, was no exception.
After a fine dinner, the Senior Warden Ian Nicholls gave an impassioned speech on the need for preserving our core industries and investing in the education of a skilled workforce. The Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, responded on behalf of the guests and gave a speech entitled Can AI Make Cutlery? His speech is available online. He discussed the relevance of an AI revolution in the light of the important industrial and social revolutions. Sheffield was the cradle of many of these.
