125th Irish Guards' Association (London Branch) Dinner

I was honoured to be invited to the 125th Annual Dinner of the Irish Guards' Association, London Branch Dinner. Ron Kirkland, Honorary Secretary, invited Maggie and me, and I was again honoured to sit with Major General Sir Christopher Gilka and former Commander Mr Ben Farrell.
We were updated on the regiment's progress during the year and respects were paid to members of the regiment who had passed away during the year. Most poignant for our Livery was the passing of Major Robbie Wilmott who was such a great friend and supporter.
Ten minutes before speeches commenced, I was advised that I was giving the speech on behalf of the Guests…no pressure then. I found an envelope and quickly made some notes, I think I covered everything, including the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant and our continued support of the IGA.
One of the highlights of the evening was meeting Seamus, the Regimental Mascot.
