Lord Mayor's Children's party

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress hold a childrens' party at the Mansion House every year, for children between the ages of 6-9. This year was also fancy dress, possibly to match the Lord Mayor, Sheriffs and Pikemen in the best official outfits!
Two of our grandchildren, Ned (8) and Blythe (6), fitted the criteria, so for the first time in many years, the Pipe Makers had representation at the Party.
Only one adult is allowed to go with the children, so Carolyn brought our two in from Oxfordshire by train and then transferred to the tube before getting to the Mansion House. Ned was dressed as a Belisha beacon, and wore a traffic cone on his head, and Blythe (inevitably) was dressed in a Frozen outfit. Crossing London dressed like this did not appear to bother them!
The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, being introduced to the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, the reserve Lady Mayoress, the Sheriffs and other city dignitaries. Some City of London police officers were also there and Ned and Blythe enjoyed handcuffing them with their own handcuffs! They also got involved in science experiments and games, took part in a tug-of-war in the Egyptian Room and had a scrumptious tea.
A marvellous experience for them and one we hope they will remember all their lives. Certainly Ned described it as the "best day out he had ever had"!
