Painter-Stainers' Court & Livery Dinner
11th March 2025Painters' Hall
The Master of the Painter-Stainers, Dr David Keats, was kind enough to invite me to the Painter-Stainers Court and Livery Dinner at the Painters' Hall.
It is always a pleasure to visit this hall, as they have an interesting selection of art on display, including painting and sculpture, and I always learn something new!
A most enjoyable dinner, with fine food and good company - I was seated opposite the new Master Wheelwright (my neighbour's successor) and also a past Master of the Painter-Stainers and his wife. Apparently in his time, the Pipe Makers regularly held their courts and dinners at the Painters' Hall, possibly because the Company gowns and treasures were stored there!
We also discussed phoenixes - the Painter-Stainers have a phoenix on their coat of arms as their hall has been rebuilt twice, similar to the reason we have phoenixes on our modern coat of arms!
