Old Bailey Choir concert
27th June 2024St Lawrence Jewry
After the Trade Lunch at Lord's, I went to the newly refurbished St Lawrence Jewry for an Evening of Orchestral and Choral Music, given by the Old Bailey Choir and Orchestra, an amateur group whose day jobs are mostly in the legal profession. They were aided by soprano soloist Lucy Mitten, who is currently studying Music and English at Royal Holloway.
They gave very fine performances of Bach's Double Violin Concerto, Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine, Elgar's Chanson de Matin and John Rutter's Requiem, made all the better because of the beautiful church setting. The evening sun lights up the church interior and stained glass windows and makes a very appropriate setting for such a concert.
The Concert was in aid of the Sheriffs' and Recorder's Fund, and the Church was nearly full.
