    Poulters' 22nd Inter-Livery Pancake Races

Poulters' 22nd Inter-Livery Pancake Races

17th February 2026

On Shrove Tuesday, the Pipe Makers took part in the 22nd Inter-Livery Pancake Races in Guildhall Yard. It was a fine day, although chilly, but that didn't affect the many Livery Companies taking part in the annual Inter-Livery Pancake Races. The Clerk, as Team Leader, told the team to run their own race, be careful not to slip and enjoy themselves. The team of Antony Scanlan, Master, Maggie Scanlan, Consort, Elise Rasmussen, Past Master and John Clark, Court Assistant represented the Pipe Makers wonderfully. The Master and Maggie ran their own races as I suggested and they arrived safely back with their pancake and pan. John won his heat but he wasn't fast enough to match some of the Liverymen, who had obviously been in training, so he didn't reach the final. However, that was fine, it's all about the taking part! There were a few fallers but the crowd were happy they all got back up! Onto our Novelty entrant, Elise outdid her many Novelty entries in the past, and turned out in a costume representing London Bridge and the Lady Mayor's challenge in her year to 'Unsquare the Square Mile'. The many Novelty entrants were lined up and the Mayoral Consort and Chief Commoner were give the unenviable task of choosing a gold, silver and bronze. As the novelty entrants paraded around Guildhall Yard, the decisions were made and Elise was the gold medal winner. The Novelty entrants then had to take part in the heats, Elise didn't win her heat but she got back safely. Thank you to the Poulters', Cooks, Gunmakers, Clockmakers, Fruiterers and Glovers, for ensuring that the 22nd Inter-Livery Pancake Races were a great success.
