Alan L Adler

1954 - 1955

Alan Louis Adler (1905-1966). Educated at Westminster School and Trinity College, Cambridge. Lt Cdr RNVR, Thames Naval Patrol, mentioned in dispatches 1941.

In 1860, businessman Louis Adler co-founded a massive tobacco import-export and pipe-making conglomerate alongside his brothers-in-law Charles, Adolphe and David Oppenheimer. This group eventually acquired famous pipe brands such as GBD and BBB, and established large-scale manufacturing facilities in France and in the UK. The trade passed through successive generations of the Adler family.

Alan Adler became Managing Director of the family business, A Oppenheimer & Co Ltd, general merchants, manufacturers and distributors of briar smoking pipes amongst other trade lines including engineering, textiles and safety equipment.

He was Founding Master of the Worshipful Company of Tobacco Pipe Makers & Tobacco Blenders, 1954-55. Also Master 1965-66.
