Masters Inaugural Weekend

16th April 2026

Bordeaux and Bergerac

Many Livery Companies have Master's Weekend and Master's Weeks. We decided to try it out. The Master and Liveryman Archie Smith, who has a house in the region, hatched a plot to visit Bordeaux, St Emilion and the Tobacco Museum at Bergerac. An added bonus is that Liveryman Mark Johnson Hill owns and operates the superb Chateaux Meaume at little north of St Emilion and kindly hosted our party for a tour and tasting of the fine wines, which we find are a cornerstone red of Majestic Wines.

Archie has written a full report, which may be seen in the forthcoming Smoke Signals. The Tobacco Museum was a delight, but sad to see the tobacco barns of the region empty and turned into houses for UK ex-pats and holiday homes.
